CHAPTER 1 - PROTOCOL 1

Flow State
Inventory

TIME30-45 minutes
OWNERPrincipal or leader
SUPPORTCoach or mentor, optional
ARTIFACTFlow profile + micro-commitment
SUCCESS CRITERIA
  1. You rate flow frequency in every leadership domain.
  2. You identify your top two flow domains and the conditions that support them.
  3. You name the most consequential disruptors in your lowest domains.
  4. You leave with one action, one owner, one artifact, and one return date.
IMPLEMENTATION STEPS
01

Complete the self-assessment

Rate Instruction, Culture, Communication, Time Use, Decision-Making, Team Development, and Personal Alignment on a 1-5 scale.

02

Identify top and bottom domains

Highlight the two highest and two lowest scores. Name the conditions connected to flow and disruption.

03

Analyze disruptors

For the lowest domains, document the habits, contexts, barriers, or competing demands that impede flow.

04

Anchor one action step

Select one domain and define a micro-commitment to test this week with clear evidence and a return date.

WORKING ORGANIZER

Rate your current flow.

Use a recent, typical leadership week as your evidence base.

Rate all seven domains to reveal your strongest flow and the domains to study next.

Your protocol can be complete here. Save or share the artifact and use it for the need in front of you.

REFLECTION PROMPTS
  • What conditions reliably trigger my flow state?
  • How do my habits or context inhibit flow?
  • What one change could deepen my experience of flow this week?
EQUITY GUARDRAILS
  • Include systemic barriers that affect access to flow.
  • Recognize that flow conditions vary across cultures, roles, and contexts.
  • Do not redistribute energy-draining work in ways that burden already marginalized staff.
