CHAPTER 5 - PROTOCOL 6

Practice-to-Impact

TIME60-75 minutes
OWNERLeadership or professional learning team
ARTIFACTPractice-to-impact chain + next-cycle adjustment
SUCCESS CRITERIA
  1. The team articulates a plausible chain from routine to changed practice to improved experience or outcome.
  2. Evidence includes implementation quality and impact.
  3. Variation across people and contexts is studied.
  4. The next cycle changes the routine, support, or theory based on evidence.
IMPLEMENTATION STEPS
01

Name the intended impact

Define the observable change the routine is supposed to create for adult practice and student experience or learning.

02

Build the impact chain

Connect participation, learning, application, changed practice, and intended outcome in a testable sequence.

03

Study evidence and variation

Compare artifacts, observations, feedback, and outcomes across teams, classrooms, or groups.

04

Adjust the next cycle

Change one element of design, facilitation, support, expectation, or evidence and schedule the return.

REFLECTION PROMPTS
  • Are we measuring participation, implementation, or impact?
  • Which link in the chain rests on an untested assumption?
  • Where is the routine producing different experiences or outcomes?
EQUITY GUARDRAILS
  • Do not attribute weak impact to participants before examining design and support.
  • Use multiple evidence sources and disaggregate when averages conceal variation.
  • Remove or redesign low-value reporting instead of adding another compliance layer.
