CHAPTER 8 - PROTOCOL 6

System Anchoring

TIME60-75 minutes
OWNERPrincipal with representative design team
ARTIFACTValue-to-system anchor plan
SUCCESS CRITERIA
  1. The cultural commitment is translated into observable system behavior.
  2. Policies, decisions, routines, language, and evidence reinforce the same promise.
  3. Contradictions and inequitable experiences are identified.
  4. One anchor is piloted and reviewed through lived experience.
IMPLEMENTATION STEPS
01

Name the promise

Clarify the value, the experience it should create, and the behavior that would make it credible.

02

Study the touchpoint

Review the current rules, choices, language, timing, ownership, and user experience at one system moment.

03

Design the anchor

Embed the promise in a decision rule, routine, script, artifact, feedback cue, or ownership practice.

04

Pilot and listen

Test the anchor, gather experience and outcome evidence, and refine before wider use.

REFLECTION PROMPTS
  • Where does the current system teach the opposite of our stated value?
  • Can the anchor survive staff and leadership transition?
  • Whose experience must shape the design?
EQUITY GUARDRAILS
  • Values must not be used to demand conformity, silence, or positivity.
  • Include people across roles and positional power in design and feedback.
  • A cultural anchor cannot substitute for fair policy, resources, or working conditions.
